Höckendorf - the village for families

If you follow the romantic valley of the Wilden Weißeritz upstream, you will reach Höckendorf in the municipality of Klingenberg on a sunny plain between the Tharandt Forest and the Eastern Ore Mountains. Only 20 kilometers from the gates of Dresden, the place presents itself to its visitors with a landscape rich in contrasts and active adventure opportunities for the whole family. The Höckendorf church is one of the 100 oldest in Germany and fascinates architecture lovers inside with elements from the style epochs of the Romanesque to Art Nouveau as well as a late Gothic winged altar. The history of the village can be traced back to the beginning of the 13th century. The ruins of the moated castle in the district of Ruppendorf and the Thelersäulen are witnesses of these bygone days. Its namesake, the noble knight Conrad von Theler, began mining silver in the Edle Krone district in the 14th century and thus became one of the richest mountain lords in Saxony. The offer for families in Höckendorf is also rich today. The zoo as well as adventure and hiking trails awaken the spirit of discovery of young and old. The lovingly furnished local history museum on the market square is a real gem.
